ETCHING SAMPLES BY HANNAH

Hannah from ED1 has created some great samples for her 'Identity' project. she has used etched copper and brass plates inked in various ways to achieve different effects. She has inked the plate in the intaglio manner and also rolled them in two colours as viscosity prints.
This shows how versatile etching plates can be.

Colour and Patination

Over the last few weeks we have been mixing up various chemical recipies to produce some good and some not so good results:
Dom (CAA 3) has been working towards her final show and Nick CAA 2) has made some large fabricated pieces that have turned out really well.

As time goes on teh Small Metals workshop will collate a batch of tried and tested recipies to be used to colour and add patina to various metals

Gentle heating of a solution under extraction
Wire brushing the surface before re-coating
 Weighing out the different chemicals
 Some of Dom's samples
 Electric blue!
 Chemicals
Mixing a solution with rice to give a different patina
One of Nik's large pieces being laid up in sawdust
Dom's final pieces ready to colour
 Nik's very impressive finished results

End of year cake and pop!

Today was the last 'official' day in the workshops for the final year CAA, Jewellery and Portfolio students and to mark the end of what has been one of the best years to date some of the staff and students brought in cake, sweets and pop which we all tucked into on the 'terrace' outside the workshops...

Party hats were worn by all......
